With my pieces I want to motivate, inspire, recreate and recall emotions within the audience.
My work demonstrates how textile and fiber techniques can generate forms that are both visually compelling and conceptually rich, transforming material, labor, and repetition into meaningful contemporary art.
Behind the Art
Monica Filotas is an international textile artist who transforms fiber into sculptural forms that evoke emotion, memory, and cultural symbolism. Through knitting and textile techniques, she challenges traditional perceptions of yarn and thread, revealing their potential as powerful mediums of contemporary artistic expression.
Trained in Industrial Design, Filotas began her career at the Museum of Modern Art (MAM) before founding her own exhibition design studio. Decades of travel across five continents studying global textile traditions have shaped her artistic language, where cultural memory and material exploration converge in expressive fiber sculpture.

transforming fiber into sculptural forms that speak the language of contemporary art
With my work, I want to demonstrate that the techniques considered feminine hobbies of yesterday, crochet and knitting, can join their potential to create a beautiful piece of contemporary art.
