With my pieces I want to motivate, inspire, recreate and recall emotions within the audience.
My work demonstrates how textile and fiber techniques can generate forms that are both visually compelling and conceptually rich, transforming material, labor, and repetition into meaningful contemporary art.
Behind the Art
Monica Filotas Works with fiber as a sculptural and conceptual language, exploring the tension between softness and structure, intimacy and monumentality. Through labor-intensive processes, she transforms materials historically associated with domesticity into forms that confront power, memory, and cultural symbolism.
Shaped by transnational experience across the Americas, Africa, and Europe, Filotas positions fiber not as ornamental, but as a rigorous sculptural medium capable of holding tension, history, and presence.
